New Technology In Ceramics

Did you know these facts about your Kiln Environment ?

  • Exhaust fan: removed the air to the outside atmosphere.
  • Hood Fan: removed the air from your ceramic room into the outside atmosphere
  • Bottom kiln fan: holes in top and bottom of kiln removed air and heat from the kiln into the outside atmosphere.

In each of these ventilation 'attempts' did not solve the problem, it simply re-directed the hazards to the outside air. All of these solutions attempted to eliminate the hazards in the same fashion, re-direction, not elimination.

Blue Diamond Kiln Company, Inc. has a way to eliminate the hazards instead of re-directing them. The Lung Association of New Jersey first identified the health hazards: Carbon Monoxide and the release of heavy metals. After seven years of development and testing, The Freedom Vent was patented. The Freedom Vent was tested by Tulane University - Environmental Health Department, New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Freedom Vent deals with Carbon Monoxide by converting it into Carbon Dioxide via its high temperature afterburner section. With The Freedom Vent the metals are released during the glaze firings and captured in the condensing baffle plates section. An additional particle filter collects metals that escape the condensing baffle plates. Unwanted odors, from gold or decals, are eliminated with The Freedom Vent via the activated charcoal filter.

DID YOU KNOW? Some ventilation systems would lead you to believe that adding air into the kiln by drilling holes in the top and bottom would make the red colors brighter, but by removing Carbon Monoxide, the reds are as bright or brighter, without the loss of heat by pulling cold outside air into the kiln.
